Riding the Žuljana–Trstenik Road: A Coastal Village Connection on the Pelješac Peninsula

The Žuljana–Trstenik road is situated on the Pelješac Peninsula in southern Croatia, within Dubrovnik-Neretva County. The route links the coastal villages of Žuljana and Trstenik, both known for their traditional stone architecture and access to the Adriatic Sea. The peninsula itself is recognized for its rugged terrain, vineyards, and quiet beaches, making it a favored destination for travelers seeking a less crowded alternative to the Dalmatian mainland. This road covers a distance of approximately 5.4 km (3.4 miles), running from Žuljana in the west to Trstenik in the east. The route is predominantly gently curved, offering a moderate riding challenge suitable for most skill levels. The surface is asphalt and is generally rated as excellent, with smoothness and grip that support confident cornering. The road is configured as a single lane for its entire length (about 100%), with the majority being of medium width (about 76%) and a smaller portion classified as wide (19%). Only a minimal section passes through inhabited areas (6.9%), ensuring a largely uninterrupted ride through natural surroundings. Elevation ranges from 20 m (66 ft) at its lowest point to 56 m (184 ft) at its highest, resulting in mild elevation changes that do not present significant gradients or technical challenges.

The road is notable for its proximity to Adriatic viewpoints, offering riders opportunities to pause and appreciate panoramic sea vistas. While the route itself is not lined with major tourist infrastructure, the villages at each end provide access to local beaches, traditional taverns, and the renowned Pelješac vineyards. Žuljana is particularly known for its tranquil bay and pebble beaches, while Trstenik is recognized for its wine production and as a gateway to the Pelješac Peninsula's interior. Riders may also encounter viewpoints along the road, which are ideal for photography and short breaks.

There are currently no known restrictions or closures for motorcycles on the Žuljana–Trstenik road. The route remains open throughout the year, as the region's Mediterranean climate rarely results in conditions severe enough to warrant seasonal closures.
